Re: Alex Cooper auction with better Canadian Quarters

I've bought quite a few things from the Cooper auctions, not all of which were coins.... but then again, I lived less than 10 miles from Towson, where they were located. I'll be watching when I get their email.

Although there is glare, it looks to me like there IS a shoulder fold or strap.

Re: 1996 Canadian Toonie

I think that the complete thread on the CCF forum should tell you all you need to know. No one will be able to tell you anything definitive unless they have the actual coin in hand. Send a PM (email) on the CCF forum to SPP. He is in constant touch with the toonie guru (t_y) in Ottawa. Spp can XRF (...

Re: 1996 Canadian Toonie

The toonie should be bi-metallic .. nickel on the outside ring and a copper alloy core(w/polar bear). Are you saying that it is all solid nickel? Can you send a photo?

Thank you lightw4e ... I had sent a PM to you rather than making a post when that spammer came on. Which way is better for those spammers that jump in here once in a while? ... a post or a PM?

Re: 1917, 1918 and 1919 5 cents...?

By definition, you aren't going to have any "luster" on a silver coin in VF condition. They have been heavily cleaned and then polished/buffed. Remember that these are .925 silver and would be black with tarnish unless played with.

Re: 1917, 1918 and 1919 5 cents...?

I'm about the same, but they would all be bodybagged because of the harsh severe cleaning .. that's if all those scratches/marks on the coin are actually on the coins.

Re: 1 & 5 cents 1897

I'm not much of an authority on silver, but it looks like high XF to AU ... there is definite wear on the coin, but coins are hard to see on a computer screen. It looks like the bottom loop of the 8 is larger than the top one, so I'd say wide or large 8. The Cent looks UNC to me and I don't see a cl...

Re: 1 cent 1862 Nova Scotia

You can give it an acetone bath/dip and a little gentile picking with a toothpick or hawthorn/rose thorn. You can get it at any home depot or Canadian Tire, etc. It is the same as women's fingernail polish remover, but that stuff usually has other crap in it. Better to use the regular acetone ..and ...
