Re: canadian pennies

True that higher grades will attract more collectors but in 2008 no-one saw the withdraw of the penny coming. Preservation levels are a big factor when it come to desirability. I say those rolls should be kept sealed for better return on investment down the line.

Re: 2007 Extra metal nickel

All of it appears to be metal, I tried to scratch it off with my nail but it's not going anywhere, I broke my nail on it. The large obverse lump is definitely metal but the small one is in fact a hole in the coin.

Re: 2007 Extra metal nickel

Alright. I'm just trying to figure out what it could be. I know what solder looks like and this is not it, that's all... No need to get angry... Thanks for the input Bill. The pin hypothesis sounds interesting only the strike on the coin is really not that good to make jewelry out of it... Anyhow, g...

Re: 2004 nickel couter-stamped with 1997 dime

I never mentioned or proposed it was a mint error coin... My understanding now is that the word ''counter-stamped'' was not appropriate for this particular coin.

Re: 2004 nickel couter-stamped with 1997 dime

Well Ebay removed the coin from auction. They informed me that the item was infringing one their counterfeit coin policies. I find it odd since it is an original mint product. I should get more details from ebay in the next couple days. Oh well, I learn everyday...

Re: 2007 Extra metal nickel

I dunno, Under magnification the lump on the reverse looks like it was plated the same as the rest of the coin. The obverse lump lost it's plating though...

Re: help with grading these coins

Actually, Edwards are tougher to grade. I wouldn't be surprised if NGC would grade it at VF-20. You do see the beads in the crown.

Re: Differentiating between a PL and uncirculated coin?

The PL coin will have a mirror like finish. The MS coin will sometimes have a ''frosty'' finish, like light fogging of a mirror. The specimen coins will present a cameo effect, usually on the portrait.
