Re: a great thread from CCF
Thank you Bill, This is really appreciated. I have forwarded on the French forum this CC thread you have posted here so that everyone is aware of these new generation chinese fakes that have been sold recently as genuine coins on eBay. I have requested advice and comments about Canadian coins sold b...

Re: Question from a new collector
Hi bstoodley, It may be a bad idea to open a PL set and send coins to a TPG. Looking through the pliofilm (original plastic envelope), this is difficult to see if a coin is a PL-63 or a PL-65. It will cost you 15$-20$ per coin to get it graded and certified and much more if you request insurance. Yo...

Re: Question from a new collector
Hi bstoodley, Welcome to the forum. On this web site, the PL value is for a coin that has been graded and certified by a third party grader (TPG) such as CCCS or ICCS in Canada. In an unopened PL set, coins are uncirculated and all of them are usually of high grade (PL-63 and above for most sets). W...

Re: 1921 Canadian 50 cent needs verification
Hi bushman74, No problem with the delay. The subject is interesting and intriguing. It fits well in a collector's backlog of fun things to do. I'll see what I can get from your pictures. Some are pretty good and sharp and I'll try to get more details from these using image processing. I have found g...

Re: Books on Grading
I finally saw the book. "Guide for Grading Coins of Canada" by Andre Langlois. It is EXCELLENT. This guide is a MUST to any newbie or experienced collector of canadians coins. This is a 8 1/2 x 11" spiral bound book printed on thick glossy paper. It is built like a larger Charlton gu...

Re: OK people, let's start promoting this website
Hi, PS - not only do you get to learn something from these posts but occasionally you get to meet some of the posters from here at different events. I've had the pleasure of meeting a few when I do the coin shows and people come up to me and identify themselves. I agree. I have met a few collectors ...

Re: 1921 Canadian 50 cent needs verification
Hello bushman74, I understand Louis or any other TPG not being able to authenticate this coin as of year 1921. The date must be visible in a way or another. It would help if you could post again the 1st photograph above without the black circle. The 1st photograph is in focus while the 2nd is a bit ...

Re: OK people, let's start promoting this website
Hi again, One reason why this forum is less active than its French counterpart is that English-speaking collectors of Canadian coins and tokens are scattered across several (and good) forums. I have just compared the number of people online on both forums including guests and excluding robots (Googl...

Re: OK people, let's start promoting this website
Hi, I have been a lurker in the past 2 years. Time permitting, I will be more active during autumn and next winter. In the past year , I have given the address of this web site to people wanting to know more about canadian coins. Living in Montreal, most people wanted the address of the French site....

Re: Split grading coins???
Hi Nero12345, Your 50 cents 1943 can't be a VF-20. Here's why. http://www.coinsandcanada.com/forum/class/test/0501943.jpeg The obverse has to much wear on the eyebrow to be a VF-20. Some details are visible in the hairs and the ear seems complete at the arrow. While this is close to a VF-20, I would...

Guide for Grading Coins of Canada - André Langlois
Hi, I have searched this forum for comments about this guide and it seems nobody has ever talked about it. http://www.coinsandcanada.com/forum/class/test/GradingGuideLanglois.jpeg " Guide for Grading Coins of Canada ", by André Langlois, was published last year. The English version was fir...

Re: Another Test - Edwardian 50 Cents
Hi, This is not a simple answer. The reverse has more wear than the obverse. http://www.coinsandcanada.com/forum/class/test/0501910_825.jpeg On the reverse, the wear on the jewels on the crown above "50" and on the knot of the ribbon below 1910 can't make this a F-12. This is better than V...
