Re: Proof Dimes (1996-2000) Made of Nickel??

Sorry Terry- Bad choice of words on my part. I realise the Proof sets are silver as I have all the sets. I was refering to the sets in the cellopaks but I see that they are now being referred to as BU. If your looking for a supplier of the proof dimes, check Calgary Coins. They have them listed from...

Tom-
I think what you are referring to are the dimes that are
in the proof sets that are issued by the RCM every year.
None of the denominations in these sets are silver.

Re: Silver 5 cent coins-1998-2006

Your right Terry, they have grouped both varieties as one composition, but this is wrong. The letter "P" stands for plated as in plated steel. The mint used this composition mark between 1999 and 2006 to distinquish cupro-nickel from plated steel. During and after 2006 they switched to the...

Re: Die Test Run?

Hard to tell without picture,
but possibly it was struck on a wrong planchet.
Did you check to see if diameter is exactly 21.10mm?

If there is nothing on the back, it's possible that it is
an old military button. Just a guess though.

Re: 1941 Penny Error

It doesn't have to be a laminated coin to have lamination peel. To expand on what Bill in Burl stated- Presence of contaminants in the alloy caused by improper mixing in some instances can cause flakes of metal to break of off the face of the coin. There are many early Canadian Coins that have lamin...

Re: 1969 Canadian Dime

Hard to tell from the pictures but
the circles on the reverse are PMD.
The other marks look like they could be a planchet flaw.

Re: military token info

It's called a Regimental Coin. The Obverse shows the Regiments name and nickname, VP. (Not sure what VP stands for) The reverse shows the Regiments Hat Badge and issue number. Did some research and found that 3339 was issued to a L. Palhazi in 1980. Hope this helps a bit. Don't know if there is any ...
