Re: Cashing in old bills

I cannot speak for your US coin but your comment is far from reality Just because something is removed from circulation does not make others more valuable If an item is not in demand regardless of how many are removed the price will not increase There needs to be a demand that outweighs the supply ...

Re: Cashing in old bills

First of all, I doubt by returning the notes it made any difference to anyone’s collection value however, it may have meant the difference of another individual ... Becoming interested in the hobby. And if you do decide to go the bank route why mention it... just do it....😥 Removing an item from ci...

Re: 1976 Olympic silver 28 piece folder/stamp

That's fine but this guy kept telling me he melts these sets all day but after the deal I got the impression from his quirky comment that he's going to try and sell the complete set himself. If the set was lose minus the fake binder, envelopes/same day stamps I bet he wouldn't have said it. I doubt ...

Re: 1976 Olympic silver 28 piece folder/stamp

Just a followup to this set. I got offers of $400 from a "collector" and $495 melt value from a local precious metal dealer. The dealer told me he melts these sets all day, said the coins have no collectible value and the stamps are worthless. We finally agreed on $550. After the transaction the dea...

Re: Cashing in old bills

Counterfeit coins! Okay that I didn't know. I did find many sites offering to make counterfeit banknotes. The Bank of Canada has an interesting article entitled, Upcoming changes to legal tender status for older bank notes In it they say... Every bank note issued by the Bank of Canada since we opene...

Re: Cashing in old bills

Nothing of real value over face. I had them on buy and sell sites along with collectible 1923's, 1935's, devil's faces etc. and I got nothing but lowball garbage offers. Nobody's collecting, everyone is looking to make a fast buck off of suckers. And once their graded nobody wants them. One "collect...

Re: Cashing in old bills

Not really a collector. My uncle was a store cashier for years. He'd keep an eye out for bills he thought had value. Most likely friends told him what to look for. He'd see known collectible dates like 1954 and switch them out. I doubt he did any research on his collection. This is why most have no ...

Re: Cashing in old bills

$406 would be quite the tip! This was my uncles collection. Apart from a few hundred dollars worth of Dominions, uncirculated bills, a few devil face's and some uncommon serial numbers the rest don't really have much collectable value, at least not to me. Turns out 1954 isn't really that old when it...

Re: Cashing in old bills

These are all very common old bills, maybe worth $1 above face value. Not worth finding a buyer. I tried selling lots of my old coins and was offered way less than melt! One was a 1/2oz 1976 Olympic gold coin. I got many offers at around $400, what a joke! They tried giving me some BS about shipping...

Cashing in old bills

I have lots of old bills I've determined are common and worth at best face value. I've had no offers for them. Does a bank destroy them according to some policy or do they first check if they have any collectable value? A teller at my bank already eyed my collection last time I removed them from the...

1973 RCMP grading

Hi, Could someone here please help me grade my 1973 RCMP $1 silver coins? They are in cases, UNC proof although hard to tell from the images but do have a mirror shine. They haven't seen the light of day in over 40 years. The same side on all four coins look stained or tarnished. I'm not sure how th...

Banknote GUNC grading

Hi, I have this 1954 $5 bill below. I'm no expert but I can't find a flaw on it. I believe it's GUNC. My question is, looking up the bill here why is there such a large value difference between GUNC-65 and 66? Is "66" status and above somehow reserved for bills that were maybe originally p...

Re: 1976 Olympic silver 28 piece folder/stamp

I found out this set originally came in a red leather binder and marked the first occasion the Government of Canada produced an official P.N.C. (Philatelic, Numismatic Combination). I guess the binder wouldn't fit in the safety deposit box so it was tossed years ago.

Re: 1976 Olympic silver 28 piece folder/stamp

Okay so nothing in the Volume II Charlton book. Thanks for looking. Saves me a trip to the library. I've tried every possible search description I could think of. Lots of sets, even ones in wood boxes but nothing like this one. My uncle bought it back in 1976. He was nuts about collecting anything r...
