1921 Canadian 50 cent needs verification
A friend and I own what we believe is a 1921 Canadian .50 cent coin. Unfortunately it is so worn that it is hard to verify this. We have checked it out under a very powerful microscope and can just make out parts of the second 1. I tried to take pictures of it with a 90mm macro lens but it is extrem...

Re: 1 found my 1954 dollar z/z1000000
If this were an UNC, Charlton's book value based on a graded note would be $550. To get that would not be likely. I am having a problem trying to grade it due to the quality of the picture, however at best I would give it is FINE due to the creases and soiling. It may actually be a VG. Based on Char...

Re: $5 1972 RS
Hello shunter Hold off racing to get this bank note graded. I am not a dealer, just a collector, but I am reasonable with my grading. Usually harder then a dealer. It is hard to tell grade from pictures, however this is what I have noticed on the bank note. - first all corners are either bent or cli...

Hi Garry, You did pretty good. 152 - 153 and 161 - 163 all appear to be Devil's Face. if you have the others between these numbers and before and after these numbers you will like also have devil's faces. The other bills shown are not DF. The bills appear to be EF as it looks like they have hard cen...

Re: FPN abbreviation
Not necessarily. It is at different places on different bills and series. Sometimes they are very obvious and other times it is well hidden. Also don't forget that there were actually a few bills series without FPN's/BPN's. Check your bank note's specific info with the Charlton book to see if your n...

Re: 1986 $2 bank of Canada
I don't have a current Charlton's Bank Note book, but I do have Edition 26 which is 2014. In it on page 415 you will see single folds, which are relatively common. The price for a 1986 $2.00 is $40 based on an UNK. Based on your picture, your note is no better a VG, so if you refer to page 372 of th...

Thanks Lightw4re,
I tried posting a picture this time with Firefox and it worked fine.
It seemed to a problem with IE. Will have to look into it further.
Thanks again.

Re: Mint Bags & Expectations
Hi Johnathan, Did your bag look anything like this: http://www.coinsandcanada.com/forum/class/test/DSC_2980_3.jpeg This is my bag of 1963 pennies. It has 6000 pennies in it. You mentioned that yours had 5000 pennies. Did your bag have the official mint seal on it? This is the official mint seal on m...

Re: Any idea what this is
Looks like a penny. Check it under a good microscope if you have access to one. Two other options for the condition might be: It has been buried for many years in the ground. It could also be road kill, run over by thousands of cars. You can get the metal checked at some coin shops that have a metal...

Re: How do I effectively scan coins in coin protectors?
To protect your coins from hand oil when handling them buy yourself some cotton gloves. They are inexpensive and should be available from most pharmacies. I know that Calgary COOP has them and have seen them in other stores in Alberta, but they should be available all over Canada. I alway use them w...
