Here's an up and coming variety....

A relatively recent one is the 1999 Voyager 25 Cents With ROPE (or line on the canoe). One (in about MS63?) just traded for $25 USD (including shipping). That's $30 Canadian. This coin was available months earlier for much much less. Here's the URL:

You are probably correct on this. On close examination of the 2nd Wide 88, there seems to be the remnants of the same doubling at the base of the 8. Only 75,000 coins were minted for this date, with at least 2 different reverse dies used, and perhaps as many as 4 or so.

You have to wonder if this is part of an indication of renewed interest in Canadian coins, and coins in general. All the dealers I have bought from in the past 6 months or so report strong demand for Canadian coins - despite the economic uncertainty at present. And all of these dealers have raised t...

Crazy 1881H Legend...

Below are some images from the legend of quite a unique 1881H 1c coin. The die that made this coin started out as an Obverse 1, but was later resunk with an Obverse 1a hub. Confirming this is shape of the base of the portrait along with doubling that can easily be seen in the base of the portrait wi...

I am not aware of the Near and Far Date existing for each year from 1922 to 1936. But they are there for many of the dates. However, it is tough to get a real strong example of a near date in any year. I thought the 1936 Near Date I obtained was a nice example though, so I posted the image.

Your top coin looks like a Far 6 - based on the large gap between the 6 and the ML, and the bottom coin looks like a Near 6 - based on the small gap between the 6 and the ML.

Yes, the near date is the harder of the two to find.
