The compositions that you referred to are the circulation issues. The proof issues often have different compositions. The RCM specifications on the CoA indicate that it is Nickel. It could be a wrong planchet as that your mint makes coins for countries other than Canada. Hey Canadian coin people, I was just looking at my 2012 base metal 2012 Canada proof set. As you may know, the quarter in this set is supposed to be composed of nickel (as are the 5, 10, and 50 cent coins). They are all appropriately magnetic except for the 25 cent piece. How does one tree if a 1964 nickel is a PL or a SP.
I bought a a 1964 nickel at the coin shop out of the bin that is proof like how does one tee is it is a PL or a SP. The coin shop is in the US and they sell all non silver at a .8 of face and I have seen them break set to get silver outand sell the copper and nickel coin at less than face.

My wife told me that the boys in class loved the V nickels and now 13 young man in the US now know more about Canada and coins than most do.

I think it is the cheep metal the mint uses now.
