Re: 1996 near 6 5 cents ?

You are correct sir. If the bottom horizontal stroke of the D can fit in the space between the D and 6, then it is Far.

Nice coin. There's also a die chip on the N.

Re: 1943 Penny (CUD?)

Very nice die chip in a wonderfully conspicuous location. The incuse along the inside of the small leaf stem looks battered to me too-- although the photo is fuzzy. I'm guessing so because this would be a prime die clash area. The war years are always interesting in their use of dies till the bitter...

That is one helluva heavy die clash. Fantastic in the extreme. Thanks for posting.

Re: Near and far 1922 nickel

seems like 3 or 4 all have a different thickness of 'S' , so that made them look different distances from the rim Nickels with more wear would probably show the widest stroke. The narrowest in all likelyhod will be the highest grade with the sharpest edges. Not to mention that when the die at the r...

Re: Near and far 1922 nickel

The spacing away from the rim on a 1922 Far Rim will appear to be almost half the thickness of the stroke of the S. It may just be an optical illusion but when you have the two side by side you get that impression.

That looks like a near rim in both photos.

Re: 1992 British Columbia Quarter

The RCM issued its first colorized coin in June 2000, a special collector-edition 25-cent coin celebrating the millemium, with a red flag in the design.

Re: Anyone care to confirm this as a 1929 high 1 cent?

Hi Tron, It is not. For it to be a "High 9" the tail of the second 9 must rest on the baseline of the 2. To double check, draw a horizontal line across the bottom of each of the leaf stems. If the top of the last 9 crosses this imaginary line then you can be sure that your coin is "hi...

Re: 1945 No Chrome?

Here I am answering my own questions... Steve, check this ebay item out. I'm not sure if this one is supposed to be missing the chrome entirely or just in some areas. To my eye the effigy looks chromed. This is what the seller says (bold mine): This was an internal test to see if NGC would grade the...

Re: 1945 No Chrome?

I'm new to post-22 nickels. Just wound up with a ton of them, and have enough to almost fill two or three books for my son with them. I've never seen one (until now), period. Steve, unlike our current nickel-plated steel coinage covering the entire planchet, the ingots(?) used for '44, '45 and '51 ...
