whats wrong listing an error that gets a +value when sold at auction or on ebay? if you only collect varieties it can be confusing but if you are in that field you should be able to differentiate them

I don't know about any 1965 dot penny. Dots are considered errors 99% of the time. Not varieties.

tin is often used to silver-plate coins. just a dip and it does the trick

what's the weight? looks like dipped. not a wrong planchet

Errors/varieties are first discovered by collectors. When well known and enough appeal to them, authors/editors might add them to their price guide. But it always comes from the "community".
