I was browsing today and I noticed that there isn't a value listed for MS 2004 50 cent coins and I assume that is because the mint only issued them in sets not rolls. I have an 8MP Olympus point and shoot camera, I set it on super macro so that I can get a photo at about 3 inches. How would you explain that the damage is on opposite sides of the coin. Both obverse and reverse are on the lower right side

1982 50 cent Large beads with damage
Going through some coins today and came across this 1982, while checking for large or small beads I noticed that both sides have damage in the lower right area. Does anyone have an explanation for this?

Has any one else run into this? It looks to me like the plating has rubbed off and it is starting to rust.
