Re: 1912 Large Cent

Oy vey. That's gonna leave a mark. I assume what I see as blue is actually bright green. Ah well, ce la vie... disolve what will and keep an eye on it. If the green comes back do it again. Verdigris never sleeps. Acetone-soaked Q-tip won't leave any trace on the bronze just be careful not to rub. It...

Re: 1912 Large Cent

It would need to attain a MS65 to even be worth while for grading. I have a hunch it probably wouldn't meet that. Fantastic coin though. Can't imagine this would grade under MS if that's what you're asking. And yeah, it's a bummer...maybe roll some acetone into that spot to kill the verdigris. The ...

Re: 1881-H Obverse #2 10 Cents with Incomplete Letters & Ser

Another beautiful coin ace. And considering the nice grade you found it in, I don't even want to think how little you paid for it... It looks as though GRATIA is doubled towards the rhs of the letters then doubled in the same relative direction in REGINA. I think this is hub doubling The doubled (tr...

Re: 1874 H Crosslet-4 5 Cents: Double stamped, inverted.

I took your bottom photo into Photoshop and flipped/rotated the image to match the mirrored impression on your coin. Then after adjusting the contrast and such I faded out that layer back and forth to see where everything should fall. Aligning it was actually quite easy and immediately I see that th...

Join the club! I only just picked one up last month-- in somewhat similar grade from what I'm seeing of yours. I right away looked if I'd won the lottery too!? Nope... mine says try again

Nice find ace.

Re: 1964 Off-Centre.

Hi Henry,
The boys at PCGS are perhaps somewhat mathematically challenged. I could tell it wasn't quite as off-centre as they claim just by looking at this cent.
:Rechercher: I calculate 82% give or take a point.

Nice error coins--the both of you. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Pre 1967 Canadian coins going for way bellow there value

.. Most of these coins looked cleaned or dipped in my opinion. Could be. Although maybe not dipped nor cleaned conventionally. I'm able to achieve a similar look using NaHCO3 , a pinch of NaCl and boiling H2O in an Al foil-lined bowl. The process seems to release the S in the tarnish (yes, you can ...

Re: 1922 Error help please

A result of uneven rounding down of the normally sharp edge of the die IMO. All those lines you see radiating from the incuse upwards towards the rim is die erosion. The outer edge of the die is worn away causing the straight lines of the relief close to the rim to become distorted when viewed at 90...

Re: What happenned in 2001?

I have come across so many of these I stopped saving them. It's almost as if the 2001P 5c without this error are the scarce variety of that year. I can't see this as being a die error per se. It must have something to do with the plating process not being quite perfected combined with a spot in the ...
