Re: 100 notes

Totally agree.... the biggest issue with larger notes is that you can lose a lot of money and have a lot of money tied up.... Most $1000 notes go for $1300 - $1500 at auction.... Given that the last $1000 note was issued in the 80's if the money had been invested with a rate of return of 5% per year...

Re: fireproof box for coins and papers

If all you want is a fireproof box you can build one SUPER cheap .... (this would not be a SAFE though) -get some galvanized 90 degree brackets from the hardware store.... cut to the height and width and depth dimensions you'd like... for exterior use concrete fiberboard (the stuff used for tiling) ...

Re: Generally speaking

It's certainly why I love these forums though Bill.... I mean you can start up a bit of a dialoge and in a short period of time you figure out you're talking to one of the most educated individuals on a particular subject!!! Terry: glad you're back collecting... the great thing about this hobby is t...

Re: Newfoundland coins

you've got some nice coins there...

your best bet it to send them into an auction house... I would also look at using an auction house that gets them graded prior to submission into an auction.

Look around there's a few popular ones out there for coins...

good luck!

Re: Clipped 1 Cent

A true clipped coin will show the Blakesly effect on the opposite side of the coin from where it was clipped. Basically because a true clip happens prior to the hub/die and collar impacting the planchet... the collar will not make contact with the area of the coin where it's been clipped... the resu...

Grade would be "good 4" in my opinion...

Next time you want to "clean" the coin.. just give it a soak in acetone

Re: 1968 variety?

To me it looks like it's the lighting and toning that's playing with the eye... I had enlarged the picture pretty big and you can see that the 8 still does have some shape on the right hand side.. but exactly what's going on here I'm not sure... you're going to have to wait til it's in hand and then...

Re: Collecting Canada 50 cent coins

If I was you I would look at a custom jewler to see how much it would cost to be repaired.... if the price is reasonable then yeah I'd get it filled.. coin is already toasted with the hole

Re: Collecting Canada 50 cent coins

'37-'52 are absolutely loaded with a wide number of varieties. I really love the 50 cent coins myself. I missed closing the deal on an 1870 no LCW and still think about that coin on occasion. Zoel has a good number of varieties listed and hopefully Paul will chime in to let us know if there's anythi...

Re: 1972 Oversized Nickel

My guess is from left to right... normal nickel .... "enlarged nickel" then a quarter... The beaver doesn't have much detail on it anymore but that could just be the photo or wear... But looking at the "D" in Canada and the S in Cents I can definitely say there is some level of d...

$6... sorry but they're super common

Went to the bank less than a few months ago and the teller put aside over $100 all UNC and many consecutive numbers... but I doubt they would sell for anything much above face...
