Re: New to data base?
It was a special commem honoring the RCMP. I think only in silver and maybe not in circulation; just a commem to buy from the RCM. Your cxoin looks like it no longer an untouched spec or proof or P/L. Not worth grading https://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins-auctions-prices.php?denomination=7&date=1973...

Re: 1891 Oddities
Yes, they used the dies until they were ready to break in pieces. If you think about how thin the little cogs of metal would be on the master used to strike and make the dies, you can see how many serifs broke off. Rather than make new dies they, would handpunch letters and numbers into the dies to ...

Re: 1989 D Lincoln double die penny error
For supposed "scarce or rare" coin definitions, the Ebay vendors look for bumpkins who believe words rather than valid study or research. Those folks deserve to be taken for 4 digit $$$ buys.

Re: 1989 D Lincoln double die penny error
This is common die deterioration doubling and not "doubling" at all .... it's from worn dies. Take a look at the smorgasbord of great info on various coin "doublings". Lots of links:

Re: 1989 D Lincoln Memorial Cent with Doubling error
As I have offered similarly on other coins site, and many times on this site, I will attach a link that explains many types of "doublings" that are NOT doubled dies. Everyone should keep a copy of this, with great illustrations, along with other Wexler writings and studies. All of his info on errors...

Re: 1858 1 cent opinions
The photos aren't clear enough to ID which Reverse that you actually have with Turner numbers and percent of dies used. Do you have any die cracks on the Reverse? Can't see any on the Reverse. There were nearly 50 reverse dies used and Turner has ID'd them all, but hard to tell yours from the photos...

Re: Stanley Cup, dollar
I'd say mechanical doubling or die deterioration doubling. They've been discussed on here many time. They are NOT varieties and many don't even condider them errors, just crappy QC.

Re: 1858 1 cent opinions
You've got the word "vine" confused. The vine is the large, thick line that snakes around between the beads and the denticles and has stems that attach the leaves. Only the first 2 dies Maybe 3) had full stems. The rest all had a vine break at 13, then one showed at 7 and, finally at 2. The photos a...

Re: 1975 nickel damaged
Even though it's nickel, it has been exposed to chemical environmental damage and corrosion. There's nothing that causes any of that from the mint. It has been eaten away from the inside out, hence the weight, it may be physical damage that started it all off.

Re: 2023 quarter
Well, you do also have some machine/mechanical doubling like you thought. It still loks like a clash to me, maybe the tie-down on his ponytail? I'm not sure how the dies are set for the 25c coinage. The edges are too flat & congruent to be chips.

To me, the "M" looks like a clash, but I can't see where on the Obv that it could have come from ...... an "E"?

One had a billion minted and the other 500 million. There is no value and each worth about 33 cets Cdn. They are just normal clad coinage with no collector value.

Re: Shinplaster Collection Valuation Part 1 of 2
There used to be a member of the Hamilton Coin Society last year who was an avid collector of shinplasters, but forgot the name. Maybe a call to them or their website may help.
