1884 Obverse 1 Cent

Post by PrestigeNumismatics » Sun Sep 12, 2010 8:10 am

Just found a 1884 Obv 1. cent raw.

I'm going to send it in to get graded and confirmed.

The diagnostics are N in regina (bottom left foot longer on the right). Which mine is but its not very obvious in the picture.

That's a nice Obv 1, but there are other markers to tell as well. On an Obv 1, the tip of the crown will not impinge on the bead at all .. the bead will be perfectly round. Compare it to any '84 Obv 2. Also, the neck truncation tip/point will end directly above the bead that is centered over the C in Canada. Also, most Obv 1's will have a D/C at about 6:00 on the reverse and that die also developed a D/C at about 6:00 on the Obverse (the N in Canada).
