Hi
Have coin from 1856, not in the best of shape, but don't know where it came from....???...Does any one recognize it...???

Do you have a picture of the reverse.This is French as the word EMPEREUR is spelled in french.You could try to google french coins and see what comes out of it.

Lightw8re......It has the same reverse (eagle) side that you have a picture posted.....Not as good as shape as yours though....!!!

Looks like 30cm ( 1 and 1/8 inch) believe or not.....???....About the size of the old Canadian and English large pennys

Well its a 5 centimes Empire Français (French empire). Just type it in google and you will have the whole description of the coin, number of strikes, weight, composition, value etc. It should be easy to find. You can try numista.fr I'm pretty sure everything you wanna know is there. They don't tell the value but usually you can check on Ebay or delcampe.fr

This is the French word EMPEREUR in french.You spelling, you can try Google French coins, look out.

I have an 1854 D of that one, my oldest coin. Has a lot of wear though.
