Hi everyone,

I'm new with the forum and I need help from someone with some experience.

I have 6 of these 1859 Pennies and looking at the guide I can see they're worth something.. just have no idea how much. The closest (reputable) coin appraisers to me is in Toronto (I live in Hamilton).

I want to see if it's worth the trip and money to go have these coins appraised. It's very expensive from what I hear so can anyone help me out on the value?

Thanks kindly.....

:D

There's a lot of varieties for 1859 1-cent canadian coins. I suggest you to look first at the date on yours and find if it can fit in any variety on this page.

You can also go to the library and either check out or just look at the 2011 (65th edition) of Charlton. It has the Victoria Large Cent variety section in the back of it. There are probably 12-15 1859's in the section. I co-wrote that variety section, probably have 700-800 1859's and live in Burlington. If you can't find what you need from the guide link, I'll take a look at them. Ffrom the grade/condition of the photos, I wouldn't get them cert'd .. unless they are a very scarce variety, the cost to certify them would be 5-10 what the coins will ever be worth.

It's something funded by the Federal government that has lots of books inside, and a few computers. It's free .. act now before Revenue Canada taxes it.
