I bought a a 1964 nickel at the coin shop out of the bin that is proof like how does one tee is it is a PL or a SP. The coin shop is in the US and they sell all non silver at a .8 of face and I have seen them break set to get silver outand sell the copper and nickel coin at less than face.

Prior 1996, if a SP or PL coin was removed from his original package, they cannot be identified properly because they share the same visual appearance.

1996 and up - SP coins
