I found this in my collection and I'm not sure if it's even a coin. Is it a penny that's been in a fire?
Any idea what this is

the more I look at it - the more it looks like a penny that's been burned. it's the same size and weight as a penny. the metal ?? has that copper look.

Looks like a penny. Check it under a good microscope if you have access to one.
Two other options for the condition might be:
It has been buried for many years in the ground.
It could also be road kill, run over by thousands of cars.
You can get the metal checked at some coin shops that have a metal analyzer.

Thank you - Definitely made me curious when I found it. I'm in the middle of cataloging my coins and came across that. We don't have much for coin shops (small community) so hopefully I can check it out on my next road trip north. (maybe get a microscope too) Will try to post what I find out. Thanks again.
