Collecting Canada 50 cent coins
Collecting Canada 50 cent coins
Hello this is my first time here, I have been collecting coins for the last 4 years, it started with a Canada penny collection (because I was bored..than I got addicted). My first triumph was collecting a Canada Silver dollar set
I had every coin except the King ( 1948).I was able to collect 3 Canada silver dollar sets in total and ended up selling 2 of them.
One day I was looking at my Canada 50 cent collection 1937 to date, but I found myself bored with the set..until I started to explore Canada 50 cents 1870- 1936..I was hooked..something about those coins really interested me.
Being tight on cash I looked at my latest Silver dollar collection and said good bye to it.. little by little I sold a silver dollar or 2 or 5 to buy a early Canada 50 cent.I now have every 50 cent coin coin now except 4 key dates ,1894,1890h
1904,1872 Inverted A.
I have also decided to go with graded 50 cent coins 1937 to date to make it more challenging.
I would like to hear some of your stories and if you have a favorite coin set
cheers

silverman: The guru on the 50 cents is pg in rh. He drops in from time to time and it's good to get a working relationship with him. If you think that there are relatively few early halves, wait until he sends you "the list".
Henry: You're getting there.

Thank you for showing me some of your collections..
Re: Collecting Canada 50 cent coins
'37-'52 are absolutely loaded with a wide number of varieties. I really love the 50 cent coins myself. I missed closing the deal on an 1870 no LCW and still think about that coin on occasion.
Zoel has a good number of varieties listed and hopefully Paul will chime in to let us know if there's anything that he has come across that's not listed there.

I just purchased a beautiful 1870 50 cent VF 20 , the only problem is that it has a hole at 12 oclock, so sad ,but I could not resist the detail on the rest of the coin.
Big question -do I fill the hole with silver or leave it?

If I was you I would look at a custom jewler to see how much it would cost to be repaired.... if the price is reasonable then yeah I'd get it filled.. coin is already toasted with the hole
