1930 dime

Post by doug0461 » Mon Jun 13, 2022 4:21 pm

I acquired this dime from a elderly lady who has since passed and I did look into it then, the info I I found was only 3 exist, and it's in its original sleeve.. It was struck with a cracked die, damage is visible with a lens, and the uniqueness is, I read, was the crack caused fast cooling but the maple leafs became iridescence, like a beetle back sheen. I know what the sales were 10 years ago but I can't seem to find anymore info on it today. Anybody care to kick in?

From the photo, I can't see anything truly out of sort. I see the dark leaves and maybe a die crack (is it raised above the surface?). Some better photos and a little better explanation of what we are to see may help. I don't see anything that may be of any value.

Suggest removing it from the 2 x 2 and reshooting the photos to eliminate glare.
Right now it just looks like one of the over 1.8 million 1930 dimes produced.
Still not sure exactly what makes this dime any different.

I was under the assumption that removing it from the protective case would reduce the value. Thx, I'll consider it.

That is a common 2x2, it won’t hurt the value to remove it.
Just put it back in another one after taking the photos.
