1888 Newfoundland 5 cents - Obverse # 3

Post by acan451 » Mon Aug 22, 2022 7:31 pm

Hello
I would really appreciate some help with this coin
Is it worth buying and if so what would you pay for it.
It has been harshly cleaned and I would like a hand grading it.
I am thinking VF-20 to VF-40 ?
I'm not the greatest at grading, so I sure could use some help with the grading.
Thank you in advance
All the best
Alan

Based on photos, I would agree with your grade range at approx VF-20 / 30 cleaned.
Price guide here suggests $300 for VF-20 then jumps to $882 for EF-40. Also on this site, you can see the average historical sold prices. Suggest doing a search on e-Bay as well for this coin & look at the "Sold" history tab (left side column near bottom of screen). It can give you a better sense of historical sold prices....Remember to factor that this piece has definitely been cleaned and should effect price significantly.
Good luck

Ebay has very little if any, and the ones sold there are only a few and in very rough shape
Thank you very much for the help
