Mintage of 2017 cions

Post by GBELEC » Tue Dec 27, 2022 2:53 pm

Am I reading things wrong??? This web site indicates a large mintage of both the 2017 Standard $1 and $2 coin
But I have yet to find one of them in the wild.
Just need someone to straighten me out

The mintages on the website are correct. Don’t know why you can’t find any.
If people were hoarding them, it would be the commemorative issues, not the polar bear issues.

I have questioned these 2017 mintages too. I have only found one 2017 common loon coin and no 2017 polar bear coins in the wild.
I also question the mintages for the regular version of the 2017 five cent coin at 106,680,000 as I have only found one in the wild.
Are there any other coin roll hunters out there that see the same thing?

I don't believe any of the 2017 regular issue ( beaver, mackerel, caribou, loonie or toonie were ever issued for circulation. The only ones i have came from an uncirculated set. I have searched hundreds of rolls of different denominations and never found any of the 2017 regular issue.

This is how you will find the 2017 regular issue, in rolls or in sets.
If somebody busts a set or roll open, you will find them in circulation.
I still don't believe they were ever issued for general circulation.

Sorry but to me the numbers just don't make sense.
15.75 million Loonies
106.64 million 5 cent coins
all in rolls for collectors??? Thats a pile of rolls
I don't know what they Charged for the rolls but I hope it wasn't much with a minting number like that.
Hope no one thinks i'm harping on this just interesting for a silly old coin collector like me :D

I belive the vast majority of the mintage for 2017 were for the 150th ann. confederation issue.
I wouldn't rely on the breakdown listed here.

The listing here for the 2017 loonie says 15,750,000. I believe that is a total mintage if you minus the toronto loonie (5,150,000) and the condeferation loonie (10,000,000) you would be left with a 600,000 mintage for loonie loonies or am i loonie

moneyhoney thanks for the input, I was wondering if that wasn't the case. Makes the numbers seem more realistic.

The first wrap rolls shown above went for about $225.
Mintage was 10,000 x 25 a roll = 250,000 loonie loonies
then thrown in unc, proof specimen, etc.sets
You can buy a unc set of reg issue 2017 for about $20
Really hard to say about mintage numbers
If you look at the 2017 nickel listing here. The mintage number corresponds with the mint (106,680,000)
But it lists the 2017 comm. Issue mintage at 20,000,000.
The only other nickel produced that year was the beaver.
I've only seen 1 but the mintage is 86,680,00 ?
