I have 5 coins (2 nickels, 1 Late Victorian penny, 1 1980s quarter, and one foreign) that all have suffered environmental damage of some sort. They are all discoloured and the surface is altered. They all look to have been exposed to the same type of damage though the nickels are by far the most dramatically altered of the coins as they have 'bubbling' and have a golden / bronze sheen to them now. Any ideas how this could have happened? (a fire perhaps?)
I also have a torn penny from 1969. Does anyone have a clue how you could tear a penny? Or what would cause this?
What happened here??

Looks like post-production damage to me.
