I am interested in gold coins from 1912-1914. I heard there were minted $5 and $10 gold pieces. Looking for the price history and what would be good prices at this time. Where would be places that are selling. Would appreciate reference to info about these and advice on buying.
Thanks,
Joe

Before you buy any coins or get into collecting, spend your first $100-$200 or so on reference books and search the archives of all the Canadian Coin sites before entering a store or bourse. Join a coin club .... there's one in Calgary.

That is good advice...but I have already bought a lot of gold Canadian coins etc...Sadly, I have not read any books or had a mentor. Though, I have seen tons of youtube videos and read other peoples comments/advice and keep a close eye out on coins that interest me. So far I think I may have lost a few hundred in value with silver coins and made a few hundred in value with gold coins. If I had to do it over, I would follow your advice, but I am very specific now and research carefully the items I want to buy. It is the stuff that I like that I know little about (e.g. value, fakes etc...), I am concerned about.
