1892 CC Morgan

Post by charleyboy » Sat May 26, 2018 6:54 pm

Hello,

Can anyone help me with this coin? There seems to be lettering between " STATES OF AMERICA" and " IN GOD WE TRUST" and again between "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the the top of the eagles head.

Thank you.

could be a die clash, but there would be no lettering there. If a clash, you would get the backwards image of the Morgan Head.

Just some marks that have occurred after the coin was minted.
Dollar looks to be well circulated so could be from anything.
Certainly no way letters were added during the minting process.

Can you not see the S under the the T and the T under the A in STATES?

Yes, I now see something, but the font and size of what's there didn't come from a Morgan die. It's not something that could happen during the minting process.

Thank you Bill, I will continue to research the coin until I am sure. The research is what is so enjoyable.
