A weird US DOLLAR- need your thoughts

Post by rescuerob » Wed Nov 29, 2023 10:13 pm

Am stumped here. For those that are the experts, what are your thoughts on this US DOLLAR?

Fake, Error, Novelty… or something authentic?

Obverse shows a Lady Liberty seated and dated 1878. The reverse shows the eagle with the Olive branch and arrows with “IN GOD WE TRUST” in the motto. The mint mark is Carson City.

I put it on the digital scale and it weighs out at 27 grams.

There is no 1878 Seated Liberty Dollar that I am aware of and it definitely is not a 1878 CC Trade Dollar.

Thoughts?

There is no such coin as a 1878 Seated Liberty so it is a fake coin
with no Numismatic value.
