Hi there,
Going through my late grandpas coin collection trying to inventory and value what he has collected over the years. I came across this 1882 one cent piece with a small melt hole and a puddled dot on the opposite side. Do these defects add any value being unique or are they just considered damaged goods? Pics attached
Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum
Actually that is damage and devaluates the coin.

Re: 1882 One Cent with defect
An 1882 Obv 2 is one of the most common of all the Vicky cents and, even without the hole, the wear on the coin puts it into the AG-3 range. Unfortunately, the coin is essentially worthless. Try to find one a little better and, even with a $5 bill, you'll get change. Keep the damaged "holed" one to think of your grandfather. From the photo, the "re-engraved date" I'm sure refers to an 1859.
