1961 variety?

Post by rocketeer » Thu Mar 22, 2012 11:33 am

has anyone observed this peculiarity where there is a line between the 2 and the top of the 6 and a line from the 6 to the maple leaf? very hard to photograph as it's not that pronounced but easy to see in the right light. quite a few examples on the 1961 pennies that I have.

Looks like a die clash with a rotation. You can see a hanging 1 here.

I have hanging 1's and I have these and they don't occur together, it doesn't look like a die clash, more of a raised line with sloping sides and the same on all coins. there is the word "arrowhead" written on the outside of the coin rolls but the references I come across don't have anything to do with these. could it be an obscure Zoell example?

It could be the 1 cent 1961 - Arrow 6 variety. I'm not sure if Zoell find this one. I saw some being sold on eBay for around 2.50$ to 5.00$ on eBay in late 2008.

There's also the 1 cent 1961 - Open book 9 and the 1 cent 1961 - Cyclop that can be found near this date.

It's hard to judge with these pictures.

that's it exactly, thank you. can you tell me where you would find any references for this "arrow 6" variety? I don't have any Zoell books, just charletons.
