Does anyone know what we're are looking at here?

It looks like a number "1" in the neck of the queen on the obverse.

Just wondering if anyone has ever seen something similar to this?

Thanks!

I haven't ever seen this exact marking but with large cents you will find there are a LOT of them that have some sort of "markings" on them. ....

From "love tokens" which were pennies with some really neat designs carved into them to masonic coins which have some interesting symbols...

My guess is that someone stamped this penny sent it off into circulation and wanted to see if it would ever get back to them....

I agree with Shylo .. I've seen lots of different 'punches' on Vicky cents.

There's also a mar under the D of Canada. Heavy circulated coin.
