Hi there,
Just a new collector, inherited a chest of coins from my dad.
Looking at another error on a 43' Cent, just wondering what it is the proper name for this type of error so I can correctly write it down on the front of the coin flip I inserted the coin into; thanks for assistance.
The error in the pictures: Two separate lines coming off the leaf towards the left. One is horizontal and the other angles upward on a 45 degree angle.

Re: 1943 Penny Error
I agree ... die cracks. Small cracks will start on the dies due to constant hammerings. They usually form wherever the design in the coin makes sharp angular changes of direction. Most common are leaf tips, the 90 degree changes on the N's, I's, E's, D's, T's, etc of serifs, and the tips of the denticles around the edge. The sharp, angular design changes form a stress concentration point that cracks (usually only surface crack to start) the steel working dies.
