I am new to this forum and am very new to coin collecting. I've come across a Canadian 1939 George VI 1-cent coin that appears to be NOT made of copper. It is silver in color and is, color wise, not anything like all my other Canadian pennies. Also of interest is that this same penny has a small hole very near the top edge at the 12-o'clock position. Being new to this...can someone offer a suggestion as to what I might have? Thanks

It looks plated or dipped and the hole is for hanging on a chain or bracelet or some doodad. It's copper under the thin silver coating.

BTW, Bill, can you offer a coin-safe way to wipe away the whatever to restore the coin to its original look?

I'd leave it the way that it is .. looks cool! Anything that you use to try to remove whatever it is may leave residue in the crevices. Keep what you have

I agree with Bill.
Why bother, it is still only worth 1 cent either way and it would cost
you more than that to try and clean it.

Hi when I feel I have to clean a coin I cleaned it with tub and tile cleaner from the Walmart it works really well
