Hey folks,
Hope everyone is well.
I’ve had some time over the last several weeks to rediscover some of my older coins. Plus I have been reading the interesting articles by John Regitko in Canadian Coin news on clipped and unusual pennies.

I have a 1 cent coin that is stamped on a very thin planchette and appears to be closer in size to a dime.
It does not have a proper rim as expected.

Just wondering if I should get this coin graded.

These are the particulars as far as I can determine:
1. Coin is copper and presents like a red nearly new penny.
2. Obverse is the same colour and looks to be a normal 1966 penny.
3. The design and legend are not very “crisp” at all on either side.
4. Rim appears to be missing.
5. Face of the coin is missing or too faint to read the “ELIZABETH II”
6. “D.G. Regin” is extremely faint and the “A” is missing.
7. Coin appears to be slightly warped – doesn’t sit perfectly flat.
8. Vital statistics:
a. 18.03 mm in diameter (expected 19.05 mm)
b. Exactly the same diameter as a dime 18.03 mm
c. Thickness .76 mm (expected 1.55 mm)
d. Weight 1.4 grams (expected 3.24 grams)
e. Non-magnetic as expected
f. Edge smooth as expected
g. Die axis ↑↑ as expected

Really not sure how to approach this – your comments would be appreciated. I have not seen any like this on ebay etc. and the page on this website does not define anything like this example. https://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins-pr ... 966&years=

Looks like it may have been dipped in acid AKA "a acid coin". The rims are usually the first to go.

Yes, I agree. Acid or coke. Also, don't believe much of the stuff by Regitko.

I don't know what it is but I don't think it's acid dipped.
The reverse features look normal sized, for an acid dipped coin the features are somewhat reduced in size.
