Hi all, this is my first post. I have been collection Canadian 5 cent coins for a few years now. I once decided to go out and buy 80$ worth of 5 cent coin rolls from the bank just for the fun of going through them... :)

I am curious about the 2001p 5 cent coins... Out of about 70 coins, more than half have the same error on them. I searched the Web for this but found no references about what I am seeing. I gave it a name. I call it the "Queen's baby bib"..

Can you please see pictures and explain to me what happenned in 2001 to have such a prevelance of this error?

Thanks for your help!

I have come across so many of these I stopped saving them. It's almost as if the 2001P 5c without this error are the scarce variety of that year. I can't see this as being a die error per se. It must have something to do with the plating process not being quite perfected combined with a spot in the relief that created a stress point so great that it delaminated the nickel from the steel on a lot of the new hi-tech planchets and perhaps caused gradual die damage as a result. I'm certainly no expert in the field, that's just my guess. Maybe someone else has a better idea.

Cheers
