Hello everyone,

This is my first post on this forum and I must confess that this coin is the only reason I joined. I found this coin in pocket change a few years ago and I’ve held on to it for some time. From what I can deduce, the coin is either a fake dime or a wrong planchet error coin. Here are the specifications of the dime and photos. Please tell me what you think. What is the grade and approximate value the coin is worth?

Specifications:
1995 Canadian Dime
Diameter: 17.5-18mm depending on which way the coin is rotated.
Thickness: 1-1.5mm
Magnetic: No
Weight: 2.30 grams
Reeding is present on 50% of the edge.
There are lines radiating towards the edge of the coin on the obverse side from the letters R,E,I,N,A.

I believe that this may be the planchet for a foreign currency or the center of a toonie.

Not really into error coins but it does look like it may be struck on a foreign planchet.
Too large to be the centre of a Toonie.
Problem is trying to determine which foreign planchet it is as the Canadian Mint has
produced coins for close to 100 countries.
If you want to do some homework, check the internet and see what countries Canada
minted coins for in 1994 or 5. Sounds like it is made of copper so that may narrow your search down a bit.
As for value, I can't really say but it may be worth a couple of hundred dollars, maybe more if it is indeed
a foreign planchet.
Sorry I can't be more help but as I stated, this is not my area in coin collecting.

I'll look into other countries but that may take a while,

I should also mention that the coin is not a uniform thickness. This may account for the missing reeding and no rim on part of the coin. I included a picture of this. The coin also has an uneven diameter.

Update:

I did a lot of internet research and could not find foreign coins minted in Canada that matched the specifications exactly. The closest I found was an Argentinian 10 cent piece that has a diameter of 18.2mm and a weight of 2.25gms. I tried looking for coins with the weight of 2.30 grams and found another error coin sold by a vendor in Regina, SK. The coin was a toonie center that was stamped without the ring. The vendor listed its weight as 2.30 exactly. This may confirm that my coin is the center of a toonie but I am not positive. The link is:

I also Macgyvered a way to take close up photos with my phone. The letters in D. REGINA are unusual.
