10 cent 1989 date error
I have this 1989 10 cent Canadian coin. The two 9s on the date seem to be different. Is this a real error? This is only my second post as I am new to coin collection errors etc. Thanks for any info.

Re: 10 cent 1989 date error
I wouldn't call this an error. A variety perhaps. It is not a recognised variety according to the price book on this site ( yet anyway..). If it is a variety, value depends on how many are out there & condition. With a mintage of 198 million, it could be common... Or maybe not...More investigation is needed. Good eye though !

To me, it looks like the coin was photo'd at a tilted angle, so one is/was closer to the camera lens and would appear large. In the lower photo, it just looks like gunk caught inside the loop. They look the same, but the coin has led a tough life so some design detail may be PMD altered.
