Going through some lesser quarters and spotted this. Hard to describe, the field is filled to the exact height of the antler and back, and connects them.Between this and top edge of the date is a depression, from about the front of the 9 to the 7. There is no damage on the date numbers, no marks, and the obverse is fine. The coin weight is correct and is not bent.
Very clever pmd?

What does the obverse look like.
You should always supply photos of both sides, whether you think it is necessary or not.

It looks like the same type of depression is evident from the anter rack on the left and the denticles. I think that the coin had been struck with a non-sharp ridged element, probably with a hammer on top of leather, with the Obverse also shielded by leather, so nothing appears there. PMD

Hey coinguy I will post the obverse. And try a closer picture
And thanks bill, the only depression is the date itself, and below it. I agree it is pmd, just wondered how this intricate little piece of work was done, without damaging the date.

Here are a couple more pictures. Maybe a better illustration.

Re: Here is an odd 1937
I don’t think that is a depression. What I see is an occulated gas bubble to the left of the
date which being higher probably protected the date from the amount of wear that is
apparent on both sides of the coin. What you have is just a well worn quarter.
