Hello, I am not an expert, so please excuse me if I made any errors or omissions. I have in my possession a two dollar Canadian coin which, following my research, seems to me to be a coin with a "full brockage" type error. On the side says "OBVERSE" there is the image of the queen and the inscriptions all around: ELYSABETH II D.G. REGINA 1996. On the other side says "REVERSE", the same image of the queen but which is rather inlaid towards the inside and with the same inscriptions and each of the letters are reversed. The "REVERSE" side is also very centered. This coin was in circulation when it was discovered. I've searched the internet, but can't find any references with this exact description; So I guess this piece is pretty rare. I would like to know what the rarity of this coin is, what could be the possible interest of an amateur numismatic, and what value could be obtained.

What do you mean where you say one side says "Obverse" and one side says "Reverse". Is this coin mounted in some kind of holder?

Great find in circulation, a rare find for sure.
That is an Obverse Full Brockage also known as a Mirror Brockage.
Hard to put a value on it, depends on what an error collector is willing to pay
but it would be in excess of $500.00 I would think..

Is the second photo of the Queen raised or recess ?

The 2 photos are both side ( observe and reverse ) of the same $2.

The side with the reverse lettering is the center insert of the Queen raised or recess ?

Now you need a weight and an XRF of both the ring and core, if they matches a real 1996 toonies you have a cool valuable error. But there are counterfeit 1996 toonies the last few years, the weight and compositions are different from a real RCM produced coin

Please weigh your Toonie to two decimal points.
John1000 might have a point, I had never even thought about or seen a Full Brockage counterfeit
although there are counterfeits with a Die Clash.
Looking closer at your pictures, the Queens head does not look right. The weight should tell as the
counterfeits are lighter than the genuine ones.

The chin, neck, and head do not look right for a 1996 $2 coin. The necklace doesn't sit right and the earrings appear to be the wrong shape.
This looks like a pretty obvious counterfeit coin to me. See CAC image I have linked.

Your fake also has camel toes, not just missing hair .... THAT's the dead give away.

I just had some more time to think why there has been no known brockage of a toonie in 30 so years, due to it"s two piece construction almost impossible for this to occur naturally, this coin even if fake would need human help. If real and a RCM struck coin would be worth 5000 or more a good weight would almost tell the whole story, go to a Canada Post outlet their scales are really accurate, Good luck
