Post by gfolkins » Sun Aug 12, 2012 6:04 pm

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could help me determine the grade and approximate value of my 1958 & 1964 50 cent pieces pictured below.

Thanks!

Although I don't specialize in 50 cent silvers, I'm pretty sure that both dates are very common and are worth, basically, scrap silver(most dealers will give you 88-90% of scrap for Canadian .800 silver). I think the first one is about F-15, and the other VF-20, maybe both a tad better. With silver at $28/troy oz, each face dollar of .800 silver contains .6 oz of silver. Full scrap would be $16.80, so dealers would pay you a little less than $15 each. The same formulas pertain to silver dollars, as well, unless it is a collectible variety or better than MS-62.variety
