?PEI Coin
?PEI Coin
Ok, so I picked up a mixed bag of different coins for my son to dig through, American, play money, Hong Kong, British, Canadian pennies, some really dirty coins, that we weren't sure what they were, so I did the unthinkable, I got a cotton cloth and rubbed so we could see what they were. This is what we found! Is this real? A coin? A token? Dated 1871

Yes, they are very collectible and reasonable in price for those that haven't been under the ground. There are a couple neat varieties of the coin as well.

Yes, and you will find cents and half cents from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick as well in the early 1860's and 5, 10, & 20 cents from New Brunswick in '1862 & 64. Canada needed some kind of money to conduct trade so, like the early Canadian bank and commercial tokens, private coinage was struck. These are all pre-confederation.

Re: ?PEI Coin
Well that's exciting ! My son was born in PEI, so he now has a very cool coin indeed to add to his collection.
Thank you so much Bill! I'm so grateful for this site! Would you mind providing a grading option ?
Thank you again

Re: ?PEI Coin
Grade would be "good 4" in my opinion...
Next time you want to "clean" the coin.. just give it a soak in acetone

I'd agree with the G grade. However you should be able to pick up a nicer grade than that for $5-6 and certainly not for more than $10. I think that I have 7-8 of them.
