Wearwise, VF-30+, but the surface sends up flags for me. Many many 50 cents are being faked, even the common ones. It's hard to define/opine something when it's not in your hand.

Thanks for the opinions but honestly I am no expert in counterfeit products. Are you referencing to the toning being greenish-uneven??

Appreciate your inpu anyways....I love the hobby...but I can see why it would be a counterfeit. Only 80k minted, last year of queen Victoria and presumably a VF20 the above photo it's CV -380.

I did a quick comparison of your coin to a counterfeit 1901 - 50 cent coin I bought from a Saskatchewan Web Auction last summer.

Yours does not have the same marks or lack of details that my counterfeit coin has.

I also had the metal in mine analyzed. There was no silver in mine.

If you are worried take to local dealer with a metal analyzer and have it checked. It should not cost much.

I think yours is real.

It looks to be between VF30 - EF40, however I can't tell if there is die damage or post mint damage.

Where did you get it?

As a footnote, be careful of any coin you buy over the web or from an online Auction. You never know what you will get. I got 4 counterfeit coins from an online auction. The police are investigating and I will be filing a claim with the Saskatchewan Auction Association against the company. I noticed that the Auctioneer sold some of the same counterfeit coins in a previous auction and I don't think that the previous buyer is aware that his are counterfeit. He will be shocked when he finds out as he paid a very high price. The Auctioneer said they don't guarantee anything so tough luck. Unfortunately for him, coins are considered legal tender and are treated different then counterfeit furniture, etc.

I should be able to post the Auction company name once the police are further along in the investigation.

Hi guys,
I apologize for the late reply. I did not purchase this coin, the price on eBay went a bit higher than my budget. It is also scary to know how many can be counterfeit product. I don’t have much skill recognizing as I consider my-self fairly new to collecting. 3/4 years, I usually go with the idea that if the deal looks to good to be true, it may be fake and I do as much research as I possible can and make comparisons to other legit photographs. Although photos can also be miss-leading. There is so much to learn and I love collecting.

I hope your case with those scums goes well!
