Another NGC Grading Masterpiece

Postby rjd65 » Thu May 17, 2018 8:17 am

This coin recently sold on eBay. Utterly impossible to understand how NGC came to their grade assessment. Grade for yourself first and then be prepared to be shocked at NGC grade. Fortunately, none of the bidders were stupid and coin sold for just slightly more than trend value for 'true' grade. Hopefully winner will liberate this coin from this fraudulent holder.

NGC : AU-58
looks like they don't receive enough canadian coins to be able to get a real canadian coin specialist... it is probably a world coins guy who grade coins from canada

Judging just from the crown and the leaves, I'd say XF-40 at a minimum, but not even close to AU. I really can't grade coins from a computer screen ... you can't tell actual wear from where just the patina has been rubbed off.

Based on the wear on the centre diamond (the key point), around the eye, mustache and chin, I would give it a VF30.

It has less wear than a VF20 might would have but a little more then a EF 40 I think.

It is nowhere near AU let alone AU 58.

Just my thought.
