I have read all the Blogs on this coin. I still have no idea what it may be worth. Almost the entire obverse is repunched or double die letters. The coin is in VG to F condition. I am thinking of selling. Looking for a dollar range.

Any comments welcome

That is not an error but one of several varieties.
To determine the variety, please post a full picture of both sides.

There are any number or varieties for 1881 that have multiple letters appearing to be doubled. A great deal of it is MD, but many letters were also repunched by hand. The value of a coin such as yours will depend on the amount of offsets and the number of letters involved. They normally carry a a premium of 5X to 20X the value of a normal one. However, the condition of your coin is very limited because of the damage and wear. Look in the 2011 Charlton at the variety section that we wrote. Only 2 examples were included, but there have to be at least 10 different dies that had either direct repunching of having the die loose on the holder so that the working die moved around causing the MD and large offsets. You won't get rich from the coin, as almost all (seemingly) 1881's have some type of "doubling" caused by the working die moving around .. the looser the screws that needed to be tightened, the more offset and the more change in direction of the offset. 1881's are amazing coins to collect.
