Those are the 2 letter prefix series which had over 1 Billion 800 Million printed.
Even in gem uncirculated condition they are only worth $3-4.00 so being circulated
they are probably only worth about a dollar each.

thanks for that
I know they are in rough shape
I was more curious about the serial number only having the two letters
Thanks again

There was two different sets of prefixes, two letter and three letter.
When the two letter combinations were exhausted due to the amount printed, they switched to three letters.

The PA prefix is the only one with any value over face value. Hard to judge by pictures but if it grades as a VF it would only be about $10.

Yeah, the PA prefix is a mystery to me. They had 9,400,000 PA issued but huge premium even though its 600,000 short of a full 10,000,000 run. I can't tell you how many of these I've seen of these go to auction with very little interest. Absolutely never see the huge premium realized either. If anybody has something to shine some light on this mystery, would love to hear it.

Me suspect that one of the pricing panel ran into a run & wanted to beef up these notes but who knows. Anyway, it books for $100 in Gem UNC* which is well over the BV of all the regular replacement notes with 400,000 issued (Go Figure).

I agree, it is a mystery. Even doing an ebay search for sold items shows only one but there's plenty available. It was a graded UNC-60 that was asking $150 and was sold with an unknown best offer.

I guess if you build enough hype, there's always someone who will fall for it! (Kind of like what happened with the Zimbabwe 100 Trillion note - which perhaps went "viral" like gamestop stock).

I've spent the last 5 years trying to convince the Charlton pricing panel to acknowledge the scarce Macklem Carney FTH $10 (like 14 reported) & they kept ignoring my requests until last year (I believe). I haven't bought a new GPM catalogue but those who have say that the M-C FTH now books a little above the Macklem Poloz FTH (which isn't scarce at all).

Anyway, back on topic: most of the 1973 $1.00 are common & so circulated you may just take them to a bank (or offer them as a lot). Only the PA has a small premium.
