Has anyone ever used PMG paper money grading services

Post by rxman59 » Tue Mar 26, 2024 10:01 am

Recently saw something where the Cdn banknote was graded by a company called PMG. Cursory search on website showed that the company is called Paper Money Grading and grades paper currency. Has anyone ever used them? Are they legit? Is their grading accurate and accepted when buying/selling? Thanks

PMG is the banknote section of NGC, one of the top two coin grading companies.
They have a good reputation and are reliable.
They have their own forum if you would like to check it out.

Did not see that PMG had their own forum. Will check it out. Thanks for your replies.

YES, I've used Paper Money Guarantee!
I dedicated a page to my 50 note bulk submission here:

I discuss TPG (Third Party Grading), plumbing forums for info, hobby strategies & other topics re: paper money collecting on my weekly Collector Corner page:

PMG requires a yearly membership (is expensive overall) & takes a while but BCS (Banknote Certification Services) doesn't certify World currency. I don't find the PMG forum active nor helpful (mostly dominated by a few coin collectors who have their own take on this hobby). If you're thinking about certifying Bank of Canada (or Chartered banknotes) you should seriously consider BCS which is far less expensive & quicker. Generally speaking, he's a fair bit more conservative than PMG but far more consistent & trustworthy than Legacy (IMO). I have seen too many dodgy looking note grades from the last co. I find the PMG population report the most helpful feature of the biggest certifier globally:
https://www.pmgnotes.com/population-report/

For forum input on Canadian notes, I look to:
https://cdnpapermoney.com/forum/

For more serious banknote collecting discussions (+ occasional World input), I turn to:
https://www.papermoneyforum.com/latest
The PMF is a US based site & fairly US-centric but there are so many veterans offering topnotch advice (99% of the time) that it is a very good site to turn to.

Hope that helps!
