It would be lovely if there was an easy solution to get rid of them all and appropriately punish people for sharing them. The fake toonies feel different if you are used to handling money all the time, and even a quick look should actually make you know. That said, the people making them are 'upgrading'. Generally change is used for fast turn around and inexpensive items, and if you watch most staff at a cash register, they are not really looking for this given items that they sell, or experience with looking for them. Vending machines are far less likely to accept fake coins, and that is often how some people end up with some - they look closer after they are spit out. I wonder how many rolls of coins go in together with some others - eg. a roll of toonies, a couple rolls of dimes and nickles. I've taken such to a bank before and they don't count or look.

The RCM owns the copyrights of the Queen as like any business you have to prove an infringement then the RCMP will act and the rest of the full force of the Canadian government agencies will act like the CBSA and most important Foreign Service who can demand action with the source country. Collectors seems to believe we are the ones to police this rash of counterfeits, simply put we have no standing, if RCM do not care why should we. All major brands have copying as a problem if you don't attack this problen you will get more and nore. Shoe maker New Balnce was in a documentary where they spend 10% of their net income on private investigators and lawyers to battle the fakes. I hate fakes but how nany people really look at our change, although the RCM is a crown corp it still has easy access to Minister of Finance, RCMP, CBSA, that no private company have a much longer and costly process before the government agencies will act. This is not a problem end users can solve it is the RCM problem and so easy to they know the 2 or 3 producers just alert the CBSA to red flag deliveries and charge the receivers and there goes most of this problem. Happy collecting !
