$5 Birds of Canada series "HNB" prefix

Post by NicS » Fri Mar 09, 2012 12:30 am

I was cleaning out my closet and found my old coin/bill collection. I got curious and decided to see if there's anything valuable so I started checking them out using the price guides on here. I came across a 1986 $5 note with the HNB prefix. The price guide just says "rare" and doesn't list values. Is it just because the bills are normally in too rough a shape to hold any value, or are they so rare they can't be valued?

Thanks in advance

One was sold on CNA Auction on July, 2008 for 11 500$ (Uncirculated).

Mine's in alright shape, a few folds, no tears, pretty clean. Not uncirculated by any means but I've seen newer bills in much worse shape. If my camera worked I'd post a pic. But to think it's worth even a fraction of that is pretty cool. Just to clarify, that says $11,500? Thanks for the info.

edit: it's also a lower serial # than that one if it makes a difference. Does the actual number make a difference, or is it just the prefix? Sorry if I'm asking dumb questions, I'm fairly new to this.

Darn, I guess it is only $5. Knight and Dodge. Oh well, it was worth a look.
