Extremely Rare 1936 Dot -Bar 10 Cent Canadian Coin

Post by rarethings » Sun Aug 12, 2012 9:39 pm

I acquired this coin over 35 years ago. I have kept the coin as well as the other coins that I had bought at the time. The coin being very wore looks as though it is an athentic dot-bar coin. Never tried to get it certified yet as I hear it could be a process that could take a lot of time and money. The only other coin that has the dot-bar is the 1936 Canadian Quarter. I have used a 30 times loupe several times to verify the coin and there is a very solid dot on the coin. I scanned the coin not perfect but enough to justify what i see. Please let me know your opinions on this coin. Thank you Image

If you really think there's a dot, you need to send it for certification.

I heard it is very long and costly process. It is going into a process shortly to a 100 times magnification to confirm the coins dot and bar. I guess if it is a legal dot it will be retirement money in the future.

There have been many many "fake" dots applied to all of the '36 coins, some looking better than the others. I wouldn't plan on your retirement just yet .. die chips (that leave a dot) are plentiful through all the 1920-150 coinages.
