1979 5$ Test Bill

Post by EJG » Mon Feb 26, 2018 8:41 pm

Hey Guys,

Wondering if anyone can grade this online to give me an idea at what i'm looking at. To my knowledge its a 5 dollars 1979 - Lawson-Bouey - Serial starting with 330 test bill. Wondering the grade value and how rare are these? Should i spend the time and money to get this professionally graded? If i do get it prof. Graded will it increase the value of it?

Thanks.
Eric.

Looks like VF/EF to me.

Thanks for answering troubadour. I'm new to this coin collecting world. I got this bill for 6$ just because it brought back old memories of playing with my parents money when i was young. This sure beats collecting sports cards. As long as upper deck keeps their nose out of here.

Hello EJG,

Sorry, the note is definitely not an EF or VF. It is possibly an F or at worst VG. Can't tell until it is actually seen and handled.

You do have a potentially rare note even as a VG or F.

I must admit that I am debating the merits of having it graded.

Where are you located?

Depending where you live consider taking it to a dealer to have them give you an opinion.

Also, over the next few months there will be a series of coins shows almost right across Canada.

Go to one of the shows and talk to a number of dealers there for their opinion. Depending where you are I may be able to suggest a good dealer or two.

I personally would not spend the money for grading.

You got a good deal at $6. At the flea markets or coins shows I ordinarily sell a similar note for the $7 range, however I usually check them first to see if they are special or rare notes.

Ironically if I have some $1, $2, $5, $10 and some other notes that have a value of slightly more then the normal selling price I will still put them out for sale at the lower price range just to get ride of them.

The note you have is worth more investigation.

Don't rush your actions whatever you do.

Good luck
