Hello Charleyboy,

Where did you buy this coin?

Did you pay much?

Can you try to take a better picture of the coin out of the 2 x 2.

I am afraid I may have some bad news for you.

I think that you may have purchased a counterfeit coin.

Look at the 5, the C and the T on the reverse.

Also look at the bridge of the nose on the obverse.

All bad.

Sorry for the bad news.

Yes, it does look like a counterfeit and it could be just the photo, but even the fields look off. It's a little strange that they would copy a fairly semi-common coin .. many of the earlier Vickies are fairly scarce. However, if there is a profit to be made, Chinese counterfeits fill up the dead space.

Looks like it is counterfeit to me also. The first thing I usually look at is the hair
ribbon on the Obverse. A 1894 Quarter has Q5 obverse where the left ribbon
points down and the right ribbon has equal arms on the end. Your coin
does not show this. Also the "A" in Regina should point to a bead, yours
points in between two beads.

Just looking on one of the Chinese sites that sell counterfeit coins
and that exact coin is for sale for $2.50 US. Probably why it has
that cleaned look.

Thank you so very much for your help. The coin only weights 4.8 g and not 5.81 g as it should. requested refund from auction. Does anybody want to buy a 1894 Quarter cheap?

Is the auctioneer in Saskatchewan?

That's where I got my fake coins from?

I asked for a refund and he just said tough luck - no refunds.

It is now going through the police.

Unlike fake furniture or other products, (these) coins are still legal tender despite their age, as such they are potentially subject to criminal charges.

Good luck

Luckily I bought it from an auction that I regularly deal with and have already received a full refund. Thanks you to all the members who posted a reply.
